Things that seem to help

I’m not a doctor, or a therapist, just someone in a rough mental space grasping at straws hoping that something is going to latch on and bring progress towards healing…

Therapy: Everyone says it. Some people think it is too easy to help. Its just talking. It is but it is also having someone pull these negative attachments to the surface and assist you in breaking them down to the granular parts. Finding the right one can be an uncomfortable and slow process. After all divulging your innermost darkness is hard by itself and you are already holding back from your loved ones – it doesn’t get easier with a stranger. It is worth the blind faith if you can at least vibe with their personality.

Journaling: I have never journaled before this. I also have never been able to open up to anyone… ever. So in line with my ability to try and over-achieve here is me now journaling and also opening up to the entire internet?

This video It brings up a difficult concept. Acknowledging but not succumbing to difficult emotions. When you begin to Catastrophize and thoughts start to overwhelm and circle like sharks. It took a few watch throughs but it sunk in. I took the plunge and signed up for a couple low cost “at your own pace” courses which at this date (10/24/21) I have not had an opportunity to begin yet.

Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life: The New Acceptance and Commitment Therapy:

This book – so far – presents a view radically different than any I have tried to use on my own before or in prior tries at helping myself. In fact its whole purpose is to not try and “fix” you. Its goal is to have you realize that pain and difficult emotions are basically a given – part of life – and nothing you do will make you immune to them. It’s focus is on understanding they exist, separating them from you identity and existing alongside them rather than trying to fight them.
